Jorja Mason Professor Matyakubova English 101 December 10, 2017 “Mother Tongue” by Amy Tan is relatable in many ways for various reasons. It seems to be a narrative concerning two problems, the grammatical and sensory language that varies from culture to culture. The second problem is the love of something that you initially are not good at or others believe you should shy away from because what they observe. Language is so crucial because it dictates how people perceive you as a person and your mind, it is in some ways a transcription of your values. Becoming literate or developing your literacy skills, will ultimately help you function better in society, as this is the case for Amy Tan.
